i was reading some of the posts today and i realized alot of people refered back to when allie says "so this is what i've been missing all these years" after they do it in their later years. what i wanted to point out was that they didn't really have sex the first time. allie was really nervous and they started to talk when fin interupted them, so i guess they didn't lose their virginities yet. after 14 years, noah has been with martha already while allie (as said in the book) has not even been with lon which means she still was a virgin until she was around 29 or 30. when noah and allie are reunited and they really have sex, she says "so this is what i've been missing all these years" because she missed out on it all those years. what im trying to say is that allie has only been with noah and that there was only ONE actual sex scene. correct me if im wrong and if i was unclear about this (because its kinda hard to explain), tell me so i can try again.

I agree. I think the first time when they were young they had started to make love, but Allie started talking and they never got to finish because Fin had come through the door. Allie said "so this is what i've been missing all these years" because I don't think she was ever with anyone after attempting her first time with Noah.

yeah, there was only one sex scene...but *almost* two...lol. you could take "this is what i've been missing all these years" in many different ways, however.... 1) she was saying that because her and noah had sex when they were teenagers (assuming it was another time that they didn't show in the movie) and hadn't had it since then. very unlikely, but it could've happend 2) her and noah had never had sex before and allie hadn't slept with Lon either. 3) Allie had sex with Lon (even though the book suggests otherwise) but it wasn't passionate like with Noah...so she was saying that

Also, we don't know exactly when Fin walks in. It could've been after they were finished...maybe? because when they're at noah's house (kissing, before) i don't think it'd be that late...because noah's dad calls out and asks if its allie, and allie had just rode her bike out. it was 2 o'clock when allie got home. i sound confusing, but do you kinda get what i'm saying?

I'm thinking like you, Cellardoor, but since everyone is going with the "no, they didn't do it", I just kept quite because I'm unsure myself, but now that you mentioned it, I'm sure I didn't hear wrong. I also recalled during that scene Noah asked Allie something "Is it in?" and "Am I hurting you?"
Why is he going to ask her that if they're just snuggling and kissing? My first three viewings of the movie was a blur at that part because their voices were so low and the audience were laughing so loud because of Allie questioning him a bundle of stupid/ hilarious questions. But I am certain that what he asked her.
And Katryn... I'm with you on number one. I think that she had never make love with Lon, and it'd been seven years she experienced making love. Therefore, that line could possibly means that she'd missed out the love making for all these years. Great interpretations. ;D

From my interpretation of the movie, Noah and Allie did NOT have sex in the old barn when they were teenagers. Noah said "Am I hurting you?" maybe because he was worried about crushing her. I don't think "Is it in?" was said because a guy wouldn't have to ask whether it was in or not. If they did have sex in the barn, then Allie would have known what she had been missing all these years, so she wouldn't have said, "So, this is what I've been missing all these years" after they had sex in the restored barn later on. From what I saw, they never had sex in the old barn because Allie was nervous and kept talking, so Noah stopped what he was doing because he knew she was extremely nervous and might not have been ready (from all of her rambling.) She was still rambling when Fin ran in the house, so there would have never been time for them to have sex.

Hm... I'll try to get an accurate answer tomorrow when I go rewatch it again. I'll get a seat near the speakers this time, even though it's at the side and I love the middle, but I'll try to get a good hearing at it. ;D Let see by then.

Actually they didn't have sex. Noah was on the verge of doing it but eveytime Allie kept talking and of course made it obvious to him that she was nervous. That's why he said to her "you don't have to do go through with it if you don't want to" so that let me understand that they didn't get a chance to really do it. Now about "that's what i've been missing all these years". At first i took it as..the fact she and Noah never got together "sexually" that's what she had been missing, but it could of also meant that she was a virgin and that was her first time.

I think that in the first part of the movie they DO begin to have sex, but like some of you said...Allie's rambling made it obvous to Noah that she was nervous, and I'm thinking he just stopped.
However....in the book it actually says that they lost their virginity to each other when they were younger. It also says that Allie had not been with anyone other than Noah. (It also gives her reasons for this) But all of us know that the book and movie are not exactly alike and they could've meant for the audience to draw their own conclusions from this scene in the movie. (Obviously it worked...)

I've been reading this board for a while, but is my first time posting. I read the book, and saw the movie. The whole first time scene gave me the impression that they had just finished when Fin walked in. Don't forget, they had to tone down the reunion sex to qualify for a PG-13 rating. I distinctly remember watching, and thinking that there should have been more to the scene in the old plantation house.

OMG... I watch this movie like six times already, and I always get lost at that part. I don't have a clue whether they made love or not. There are so many different perspectives to that scene--with the act and wordings-- that it's hard to conclude an accurate answer. But from the book, it did stated that they did lost their virginity on a summer night. Therefore, it kind of swaying my mind to believe the two did make love, though briefly. Anyways, movies usually drift off the exact details of the novel. Thus, still in total confusion of that part.
