From three article sources I had read, it did stated that Nick (the director), decided to choose McAdams over Spears, even though he didn't know who the hell was McAdams. In conclusion, he was so happy to pick McAdams as Allie's role.
I'm also glad that it was McAdams that receive the role of Allie. Spears's acting is pathetic (sorry to offend any of her fans). But if she did taken on Allie's role, she would certainly take away interest for me on "The Notebook". I'd always loved the book, and if I found out that it was Allie is being played by Spears, I would go crazy and screaming around. She would ruin the entire movie if she was cast in the movie. Crossroad was pathetic, and she would do the same if she take the lead role. Fortunately, she didn't.
And to her fans, don't go bashing me. Those are my opinions... Everyone have his/her rights to state his/her opinions and views about others.

At first I was so confused as to why they would go with actors who were that much older, but I think now that those prior choices of Tom Cruise and Ashley Judd were perhaps an attempt to capture the Noah and Allie that comprise most of the book - the Noah and Allie who were 31 and 29. I'm glad in the end they went the way they did, because I don't know if I could see Tom and Ashley as 17 and 19 year olds, and if they weren't the ones playing the teenagers, I don't know how that would've worked out, with all the layers of time they were working with...

By the way, I wonder what aroused Britney's interest in the movie? Having both Mandy Moore and Britney Spears do a Nicholas Sparks book would've been weird...

first of all, ya it would have been relly weird if the both of them did the movies. and britney spears? i mean, come on, you know the expression "she/he lights up the screen"? weel im pretty sure that she would have pretty much dulled the entire movie. any fans, please don't take this the wrong way. people have their own talents and acting is not one of britney's. sorry. i also heard reese withersthingy was up for the part. the movie would never ever ever ever be the same without ryan and rachel. now those are people who light up the screen

i agree i wouldent go see the movie if spears played the part for allie even though spears is one of ryans good friends i believe they did the mickey mouse club together...but in a recent interview i read in a canadian mag with ryan, he clearly said that since MMC ended they haven't communicated at all if britney played allie i would simply not see the film- and i'm sure many wouldn't either. she is one of the worst actresses i have ever seem to play on the silver screen. the only thing that she is decent as is performing (no, not singing...performing as in dancing and putting on a show...which includes lip synching half the time anyhow). the role of allie was MEANT for rachel. also, i think that cassavettes ultimately chose younger stars and more "newcomers" because (like he's said in many interviews) he wanted the experience and emotions of their lines to be real...since both rachel and ryan had never really played romantic leads, this would happen, as it was their "first time." i think that in earlier stages of production when other directors were supposedly directing it, they had in mind older characters to play noah and allie...but i think younger is better. tom cruise as noah would just NOT have been right....just seeing rachel and ryan's chemistry is just so beautiful and nobody in my mind in hollywood right now conveys those emotions in love stories. sorry for my babbling

Yes, I saw on ET on VH1 that Britney Spears was one of the top nine girls that was chosen to do a screen test w/ Ryan Gosling...but our sweet Rachel McAdams stole everyone's heart. Rachel even said, "I'm sure that Britney would have done great w/ the part, but I think it would have been a completely different movie." and then she laughed. The way she acted, I don't think she likes Spears too much!

Yep! Tom Cruise doesn't seem to fit the role of Noah Calhoun at all. I found that the casting Nick had decided for the Notebook is flawless. McAdams are way better of an actor than Spears, and Gosling matched the role of Noah. I cannot conceive of another person portraying Noah and Allie beside McAdams and Gosling.

Okay, I totally agree with you! It's true that Britney went for the part. First off, she's trashy and not at all classic and natural. I loved the book so much and I was ecstatic to find that it was becoming a movie. If she would have been Allie I would have been SO INCREDIBLY PISSED. I think a lot of other people would have too. She does not represent love. (Not that Rachel McAdams does or does not..I don't know..but she did so well in the movie) Britney Spears would be such a hypocrit...ya know? That's my two cents.
