So far, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember and The Notebook have been released as movies. For those of you who have seen them all, what is your favourite? Some of my thoughts:
Message in a Bottle: Well, i disliked the book (it was snore city [even though i cried] and was extremely unbelievable...and i kept waiting for something big to happen, and it never really did) and i thought the movie was even worse.
A Walk to Remember: I got obsessed with this movie when i first saw the trailer and immiediately read the book. I LOVED it, but was somewhat dissapointed with the movie. It was a tad better than your average teenage movie, but it used many cliches that weren't needed or used in the book and some parts were really corny. After watching it numerous times i realized that the acting could've been much better, and that the pacing and editing sucked.
The Notebook: By far, the best Sparks adaptation. Although there was a lot of things that were changed from the book, they were good things, not stupid or things that were unncessary. Plus, all of the supporting roles (ie, Joan Allen, James Marsden, Gena Rowlands and James Garner) were amazing, the pacing and flow fit well, and the chemistry between Rachel and Ryan was something undescribable (sp?).

I didn't watch Message in a Bottle, but did read the book. Therefore, I cannot compare it.
It was a disappointment. I'd grown to understand and love the characters while reading the novel. When news of it being release as a motion picture, I was jumping and screaming around like crazy. During the viewing, I kept reminding myself that the plot is excellent, and the anecdote itself holds a great theme of life for those diagnosed with Leukemia. But Moore's acting pretty much disappointed me; average acting to be exact. Nothing splendid, nor is it bad. I wasn't able to see the naturalness in her acting. The tears seemed a bit force. And since this movie somewhat held a theme like "Sweet November"-- a female couping about cancer or an illness similar to cancer, and trying to spend her remaining days helping others--, I compared Moore with Theron in performance of tears and despondency. But it was an unfair comparison because Theron is an experienced actress. As for Moore, she is new.
Also, the pacing of the movie was not as much captivating. It seemed to be rush and many details were lost. Maybe the show moved at that pace to shorten the running time. Another thing is, I reckoned that they should have added the scene from the book, where Jamie was too gaunt because of the illness that she barely fit in her wedding gown and was confided in a wheelchair down the aisle. That would give us a glimpse at how a person diagnosed with Leukemia become in the advance stages, and would certainly steal more of my interest and tears.
[Notebook]I loved the novel and the movie. It's hard to compare the two. Though the movie differed from the novel, the extra details they added seem to makes us watch in awe. The actors/actresses portrayed so well with the characters, adding intensity just like the book. The pacing didn't seem rushed, nor was it a drag. The timing seemed perfect. I enjoyed how the novel briefed about their first met and fall in love, while the movie goes into it with thorough details. It's extremely difficult to compare because I'm enjoying and loving it. Nothing negative comes to mind when "Notebook" is mentioned. ;D One thing though... how did those critics gave this a C? It's by far the best romance movie to be release. I am very frustrated with their ratings, and their reason blow me hard in the face-- the time frame? Or Gosling's acting? The time frame, to me, is one of the interesting factors. Gosling's acting was splendid and his on-screen chemistry with McAdams was great. I wasn't frustrated when critics gave AWTR a D because I somewhat agrees with them. But how is The Notebook a C? I should stop here, before I will yap on with paragraphs of complaints. ;D [/size]

i agree, the notebook is a much better movie than awtr (i've never seen message in a bottle). the things that do it for me are: -the time period (WWII, the music, the outfits, the whole shebang) -the actors (much more talented) - the romantic scenes (very intense and convincing) -the supporting actors (cmon, supporting actors are just as important) - the scenery (the lake is breath taking) - the plot (both of the movies are pretty predictable but in the notebook, you can feel that she is being pulled in two directions, while in awtr, u know she gonna die)
basically, both are good in their own ways but i just find the notebook a little more intresting

All my friends agree that the Notebook is definitely better than AWTR. However, they say that both the novels were not even comparable. It's both so good in details and plot.[/size]

I did like A Walk to Remember for a while... But then i dunno it got boring and too sad for me. Because of the ending.. I mean she DIED.... I dont like that if another lover dies and then the other lover is trying to live his life without her... I dont like those kind of movies.. its to sad for me.. besides i dont think Moore's acting was very realistic.. i dunno but the Notebook... there's something about it that just grasps your heart you know? It's just a great cast, great story, great passion/intense scenes, and great EMOTION and ofc LOVE!!! It's more real to me.. I mean i love the scenery there.. with the rivers, the grass, the woods, everything is sooo pretty! Perfect setting for a romance story.. OFC I liked the war setting its perfect for their tragedy of breaking up, the style of their clothes ofc... Just the simple life of the 40s is a perfect setting for a great love story.... I know that AWTR that Moore died at the end of Lukemia.. and the Notebook ppl say that Allie died but not Noah.. Well in my head they both died together.. I like that ending better than having the other lover suffer... I like miracle love story endings than a tragedy sp? You know??? [glow=red,2,300]THE NOTEBOOK[/glow] Far of the best movies that I've ever seen in my life...

Trueloverawks: Absolutely agree. I hate watching movies where the conclusion with one living, while the other is gone. Even though Allie and Noah died in The Notebook, it means they can be together happily in heaven. ;D That's a beautiful ending.
I also agree that Moore's acting doesn't engross you in the character. She doesn't accentuate any naturalness of the character, and seemed a bit forcing herself to be like the character instead of putting her mind into it. I doubt I'm making sense. Gibberish...
Oh and I love your signature. Love the violet shade. [/size]

when a walk to remember first came out i couldnt wait to see the movie. i had read the book before and i had an idea of what the movie was going to be about. but after watching the movie i was kinda dissapointed in the book and the movie, it think i expected to much or something. i think the main problem was mandy moore. i like her singing and all but.. for me at least, she didnt really fit the character.
on the other hand, for the notebook, rachel mcadams did a excellent job. she made her role believale and told us the most romantic story of love that lasts a lifetime. in the notebook, you kinda cant help but crying! but in a walk to remmeber i didnt cry.. the ending was sad.. but i dont understand how he could live without her. in the notebook they died together.. i dont know. maybe its just be but i thought that the notebook is a lot sweeter then a walk to remember.

The only other Sparks movie that I saw was A Walk to Remember, and that sparked this really huge obsession and inspired me to go out and read the book. buuuuttttttttt, after a while, I just got sick of it and now I can't even bear to watch it again. After watching The Notebook, I think AWTR could've been SOOOOO much better
